Great fishing spots on the Surf Coast
Fishing is an ancient practice dating back more than 40,000 years when people fished for survival. Today there are an estimated 38 million commercial fisheries and fish farms around the world and this number is growing every day.*
Around the Surf Coast and Great Ocean Road is an angler’s paradise. Whether you enjoy netting, boat fishing, beach fishing, fly fishing, rock fishing or river fishing, there are many popular fishing spots, so we thought we would share some of our favourites with you.
Fisherman’s Beach – Is home to one of only three Boat Launching Ramps on the Surf Coast. There are plenty of species to be caught from the beach at Fisherman’s Beach, or from your boat just out from the Angling Clubrooms such as flathead, snapper, whiting, gummy sharks and salmon.
Spring Creek – A great bream fishing spot, with salmon and mullet also caught. On the ocean side near the bridge is a popular spot.
Jan Juc Front Beach – The best fishing is between the Life Saving Club and the Bluff including gummy shark. Fishing where rip holes are more consistent, will be more successful.
Point Roadnight – A boat ramp is available for boat launching. Surf fishing produces snapper, salmon and gummy sharks. There are also great yabby beds between the boat ramp and headland.
Anglesea River: Bream are a popular catch, with the better fishing upstream. Great platforms and piers available to take the kids along too.
